Hifz Focus: The Complete Teacher's User Manual
Welcome to Hifz Focus! This comprehensive manual is the single, authoritative guide for teachers. It covers everything from setting up your classroom and conducting live sessions to real-time word-level error marking, asynchronous audio reviews, spaced repetition (Dour) settings, and automated schedule reminders.
1. Teacher Dashboard Overview
When you log in, your dashboard is your central command center:
- Assigned Students: Each student card displays the student's name, their current lesson (
Sabak), their learning track (Hifz or Tajweed), and their latest recitation date. - Pending Audio Submissions: If a student submits an audio recording for asynchronous review, a prominent badge labeled "Recitation Ready for Review" appears on their card.
- Quick Action Buttons:
- Start Session: Immediately launches an interactive teaching session with the student.
- View Details: Opens the student's full historical profile, revision queues, and settings.
2. Conducting Live Sessions
Clicking "Start Session" starts a live timer. The session screen is designed for speed and clarity during live recitation.
2.1. Selecting the Lesson Type
Use the Lesson Type selector dropdown at the top to choose what you are listening to:
| Lesson Type | Purpose | How to Use |
|---|---|---|
| Sabak Revision (Default) | Reciting lessons that need consolidation. | Loads lessons currently in the student's Practice Queue. Select a lesson to load the exact verses and previous error markers. |
| New Sabak | Teaching a brand-new lesson. | Use "Change Sabak" to choose the Surah and verse range (e.g., Al-Baqarah 1–10). Click "Update Sabak" to load it onto the Mushaf. |
| Dour | Spaced Repetition revision of older memorized material. | Pick items from the prioritized Dour list, or click "Add Custom Dour" to set a custom page or verse range. (Hidden automatically for Tajweed-only students). |
3. Real-Time Word-Level Error Marking
Give instant, unambiguous visual feedback while the student recites without breaking their flow:
3.1. Error Categories & Color Coding
- Jali (Red Highlight): Major, clear mistakes altering word meaning or grammar:
- Harakah: Vowel changes (Fatha, Damma, Kasra, Sukun).
- Letter: Swapping one letter for another (Seen vs Saad).
- Word Miss: Omitting or adding words.
- Shaddah: Missing or adding letter doubling.
- Waqf: Stopping in a way that breaks sentence meaning.
- Khafi (Yellow / Amber Highlight): Subtle Tajweed pronunciation mistakes:
- Makhraj: Incorrect articulation point.
- Sifaat: Missing attributes (Hams, Qalqalah, Tafkheem).
- Rule: Mistakes in Idgham, Ikhfa, Iqlab, Izhar.
- Madd: Incorrect vowel elongation counts.
- Ghunna: Inaccurate nasalization duration.
- Waqf/Ibtida: Stopping or starting violations.
3.2. Marking Tools & Voice Corrections
- One-Click Marking: Click any word directly on the interactive Mushaf to highlight it. Click verse markers at the end of an ayah for verse-level slips.
- Category Selection: Click on marked errors in the bottom tray to assign the exact category.
- Record Voice Correction: Click "Record Correction" to record your own voice (3–5 seconds) demonstrating the exact corrected pronunciation. The voice clip attaches directly to that word for the student to listen to!
4. Asynchronous Audio Recitation Reviews
If the student submitted an audio recording instead of attending a live class:
- Click "Play Recitation" at the top of the session screen.
- The lesson loads on the Mushaf and the audio player appears at the bottom.
- Play the audio at your own speed (pause, rewind 5s, replay difficult verses).
- Mark errors in real-time on the Mushaf as you listen.
- Record your own voice correction notes and save the session.
5. Completing and Saving a Session
When recitation ends, click "Complete & Save Session" and select one of two outcomes:
Option A: Sabak Memorized (Passed)
- New Sabak or Sabak Revision: The lesson graduates out of the Practice Queue and is added to the student's long-term Dour Queue with an automated due date.
- Dour: The item's repetition count increments and its next review date is spaced further into the future via Spaced Repetition (SRS).
- If zero errors were made, the student automatically unlocks a Flawless Session or Strong Memory badge!
Option B: Needs More Practice (Review Needed)
- The lesson is placed into (or retained in) the student's Practice Queue.
- It will appear as top priority on the student's daily To-Do List until mastered.
Instant Notification: Once saved, the student receives an immediate push and email summary showing the session outcome, total Jali and Khafi counts, and any teacher voice notes.
6. Dour Revision Settings & Queue Maintenance
On the student's View Details page, teachers have powerful administrative controls:
- Dour Chunk Size: Adjust the word count per revision block (e.g. 150–500 words) to tailor daily revision workloads to the student's age and memory strength.
- Clean Up Queue: Rebuilds the student's entire Dour schedule from their session history in case of ordering discrepancies or imported logs.
7. Teacher Settings: Video Room Links & Automated Reminders
Access the Settings (Gear icon) in the top navigation bar to automate classroom logistics:
- Personal Meeting Link:
- Save your persistent Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams link.
- This link displays as a "Join Live Session" button on the student's dashboard and is included in reminder emails.
- Automated Session Schedules:
- Create recurring schedules by selecting days of the week, time, and assigned students.
- The system automatically sends reminder notifications 10 minutes before each class, eliminating no-shows and late starts.
8. Best Practices for Teachers
- Resolve Jali Errors First: Never pass a lesson with uncorrected vowel or letter mistakes.
- Short Audio Notes: Keep recorded voice corrections focused on demonstrating the single word or sound being corrected.
- Check Previous Errors: Before starting a recitation, glance at the student's previous session errors to verify retention.
